If you’re a golf enthusiast, you’ll know that Rickie Fowler is kind of a big deal. Well, now the six-time PGA Tour winner has become the latest high-profile athlete to adopt 3D printed equipment in pursuit of sporting success.
At the American Express 2024 PGA event, Fowler debuted an ‘RF’ wedge made by Cobra Golf using HP Metal Jet 3D printing. Making the club with binder jetting enhanced its strength and durability, while allowing for customizable weight distribution. It’s also said that tailoring its ‘sole’ has helped refine performance-critical interactions between club and turf.
Elsewhere, having 3D scanned the original, Cobra Golf has been able to quickly iterate upon the club’s design, adjusting camber to perfectly meet the golfer’s needs. Digitizing the wedge means that Fowler can now improve it further too. That might come in handy, as he didn’t quite make the cut on the club’s debut. He may be back for changes soon!
