Dozens of patients get 3D printed dentures

3D printer manufacturer Stratasys has unveiled a partnership with US dental specialist Express Dental Labs. Already, as part of their collaboration, the pair have launched the Oklahoma Dental Association Mission of Mercy (OkMOM) –  a two-day free healthcare initiative.

Hosted in Lawton, Oklahoma, the event saw free dental care provided to 55 people in need, with Express Dental Labs doing the intraoral scans and Stratasys creating the dentures.

3D printed with the Stratasys J5 DentaJet from TrueDent resin, the implants themselves were produced overnight and shipped to practices the next day, where they were prepped for collection. The results are said to have been pretty staggering, with multiple denture bases and teeth being created as single, full-color units in one print run, and personalized to patients.

According to Ronen Lebi, Stratasys’ VP of Dental, “it was truly gratifying to witness the positive impact” of his company’s technology “on the lives of those in need.”

With OkMOM moving into its second year, and 15 more people taking advantage of the offer than last time, it’ll be interesting to see if Stratasys rolls the project out further. But in the here and now, it’s clear that 3D printing can deliver pearly white clean dental results!
