Hilos debuts Studio OS for 3D footwear manufacturing

Hilos presented its latest invention, Studio OS, during Milan Design Week, unveiling what they phrased as “the first generative design software to leverage AI models trained on 3D footwear.” This next-gen platform promises to turn ideas and designs into wearable objects with remarkable speed, flexibility, and control, marking a leap forward in product creation.

Based in Portland, the futuristic start-up specializes in providing footwear brands and independent makers with an innovative platform for designing and crafting 3D-printed footwear. Their approach is all about local, on-demand production, aiming to reduce inventory and end-of-life waste to a bare minimum, if not zero.

According to Hilos, Studio OS would help creators of a wide skill range breathe 3D life into their ideas through smart and understandable workflows. Whether starting from text prompts, sketches, or mood boards, designers can transfer their vision into detailed 3D computer-aided design (CAD) models ready for manufacturing. Notably, the software’s unique capability to detect and separate shoe parts into layers makes granular control and regeneration at the component level entirely possible.

At Hilos, the team believes that Studio OS will enable the swift launch of wearable shoes within an impressive 90 days from idea to market. The release at Milan Design Week follows the introduction of HILOS Studio at Art Basel Miami last year, illustrating the company’s rapidly developing innovation for dynamic (and green!) production compared to the traditional world of footwear design. Well, HILOS seems to be doing a great job, even with big shoes to fill.
