Ukrainian start-up LEMKI Robotix has worked with large-format 3D printing specialist iScale3d to develop a unique environmentally friendly mobile home.
Said to be the first 3D printed home of its kind, ‘DISCOVER 3D’ is made from fiberglass, as well as 7,400 plastic bottles worth of recycled polypropylene. As reported by Design Boom, the small caravan-like vehicle is designed to help inhabitants unplug sustainably, thanks to its optional solar panels and recyclability – in fact some 80% of its materials can be reused.
LEMKI Robotix’s trailer is also capable of adapting to different climates, with temperature, water, and battery sensors allowing for close monitoring and peak resource efficiency.
You may be thinking ‘why bother with 3D printing, we already have motorhomes?’ Well, LEMKI Robotix aims to promote eco-friendly living by scaling the vehicle’s production, and 3D printing is seen as the ideal solution for doing so with minimal material waste.
They might have a point – plenty of other homes are now being 3D printed. Construction 3D printing leaders CyBe, COBOD, and Apis Cor have all demonstrated the technology’s potential in this area. In Texas, ICON is even planning to build the world’s first 3D printed hotel.
Not only does the technology offer sustainability benefits, it’s faster, cheaper, and offers greater design freedom than conventional construction methods allow. LEMKI Robotix hopes to harness these advantages, while taking things to the next level – by building a home on wheels.
If the vehicle enters mass production, who knows? One day, you could be camping out with friends and family in your very own 3D printed abode, free to roam where you please.
