Italian start-up debuts new 3D print finishing technology at CES 2025

Italian post-processing start-up 3dnextech has debuted a novel technology that turns 3D prints into consumer-ready parts at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025.

Though details are currently thin on the ground, the company’s innovation is said to revolve around the chemical-physical process that makes plastics malleable. Not only is it understood to improve the aesthetics and properties of end-use polymer 3D printed parts, the technology is meant to make it easier to give them a high level of polish and durability.

According to 3dnextech, irregular surfaces and suboptimal microstructures can create problems in the 3D printing of robust products, in a way that limits their industrial applications.

With its flagship 3DFinisher machine, the firm boasts of being able to “realign polymer chains,” to give 3D prints smooth, durable, refined surfaces. At CES, it’s unveiling an upgrade that allows customizable textures and patterns to be added without any mechanical processing.

Ultimately, 3dnextech expects this to extend the reach of its technology beyond the traditional 3D printing space. But it also aims to improve and streamline the production of high-quality 3D printed parts, so they’re more competitive with injection molded alternatives.

Having secured €1.5 million in a funding round led by EUREKA!, Venture SGR, and RoboIT last year, it now anticipates raising even more capital in Q1 2025 to fund its ongoing expansion.

“Our journey has led to a technology capable of transforming an entire production chain by addressing real industrial needs,” said Andrea Arienti, CEO of 3dnextech, in a press release. “Representing Italian innovation at CES is a significant milestone and a chance to engage with the global market during this crucial growth phase.”
