3D Systems to sell Geomagic Software Portfolio to Hexagon in $123 million deal

3D Systems has announced the sale of its Geomagic software portfolio to Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence Division for $123 million. The transaction, scheduled to close in early 2025 and pending approval, marks a strategic shift as 3D Systems refocuses its software investments on core platforms supporting additive manufacturing.

Geomagic’s suite, including Design X, Control X, and Freeform, is globally acclaimed for facilitating reverse engineering, quality control, and CAD model creation. Hexagon, a top name in digital reality solutions, plans to integrate Geomagic’s capabilities into its scan-to-CAD workflows, boosting users’ ability to digitize a diverse range of objects and environments.

“This move sharpens our focus on software platforms like 3DXpert, 3D Sprint, and Oqton, which are pivotal for advancing high-reliability AM in production environments,” stated Dr. Jeffrey Graves, CEO of 3D Systems.

Leveraging AI and machine learning, 3D Systems continues to expand its platforms’ capabilities, promoting adoption of 3D printing technology in industries from aerospace to healthcare. Hexagon’s acquisition of Geomagic, meanwhile, guarantees sustainable innovation for its loyal customer base.
