UK cyclists gear up for Paris 2024 with 3D printing technology

Renishaw, as the official additive manufacturing partner to British Cycling, has been instrumental in creating the innovative Olympic track bike for Paris 2024 Olympics. Working closely with Lotus Engineering and Hope Technology, Renishaw has been in charge of designing and producing key 3D printed components to improve the bike’s performance by reducing its weight and enhancing aerodynamics.

In the words of Ben Collins, lead additive manufacturing application engineer at Renishaw, “We were delighted to be asked to continue our partnership with the British Cycling team and develop components for the Paris 2024 bike.” Collins also gave a shout-out to the collaborative effort of British engineering talent, emphasizing it was crucial not only in refining the bike’s design but also  exploring boundaries of AM technology.

Oliver Caddy, lead project engineer at British Cycling, thanked the Renishaw’s team for support, saying, “Renishaw’s contribution is not limited to development as crucial elements of the bike, including the seat posts and crank, have now also been produced by additive manufacturing, showcasing its power in the cycling industry. It’s clear that Renishaw are as committed as we are to delivering excellence on this project.”
