Atomik AM, a Liverpool University engineering offshoot, has secured a £125,000 investment from the LYVA Labs innovation hub, which is dedicated to accelerating economic growth through the commercialization of innovation.
Based in the University’s School of Engineering, Atomik AM creates binder jetting solutions for the advanced manufacturing sector. The company has multiple patents and successful collaborations with blue-chip companies on their portfolio, and is projected to make a major impact in the industry.
The investment from LYVA Labs will help the start-up to drive its product commercialization, converting its strong pipeline into commercial contracts. It will also support intellectual property (IP) development, fund a new patent filing, secure eight working positions, and create a chief operating officer role.
“This investment is a testament to the groundbreaking work our team is doing to advance additive manufacturing processes. It allows us to expand our capabilities, accelerate innovation, and bring sustainable, cutting-edge solutions to the industry,” said Atomik AM’s Founder and CEO, Professor Kate Black FREng.
The significance of the deal was also emphasized by Akshay Bhatnagar, LYVA Labs’ Head of Investments, who views Atomik AM as an example of the excellence found in advanced manufacturing R&D across Liverpool City Region. With a little help from the University of Liverpool’s Enterprise Team, which invested in the spin-out through its Enterprise Investment Fund, the company is set to translate its groundbreaking research into commercial applications with economic impact.
Emma Nolan, Head of the team, commented: “We are proud to have supported this University spin-out as one of its first investors, early in its journey. This is an example of our commitment to help create a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem and a cluster of high-growth companies across the Liverpool City Region (LCR) and beyond.”
This strategic investment marks a leap forward for Atomik AM, bringing it even closer to transforming the additive manufacturing sector with fresh innovations while creating lasting economic impact – in the region and beyond.
